I started with both of these flamingo paintings at the same time. That´s why it took one week extra to post I guess. Double work, double time. They are not perfect but it has been a good exercise. I started both of these with the brush straight on to the paper without any drawing before that.
I have been cheating some -if I can call that cheating.
The neck turned too long on the painting to the left, and too short on the painting to the right. But I think I fixed that quite well!

As you can see if you are a follower of my blog, I have changed the look of my blog. I will put a photo as a header, but I have to get a new photo as I have discovered that my photos are too big. So there will still be a few changes. My blog was very dark before, and I feel like lighten things up abit. Maybee it´s the spring I don´t know ;)
Anyway; I hope that you will like it, and that you will find your way here as easily as before.
Love Peace and Happiness

Catharina - I cannot tell what you did to fix either necks but both are gorgeous paintings. I think it is hard to get animals correct without drawing but you did such a wonderful job. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie :) I am so fussy with details so I thought it was a good way of forcing me NOT to fuss by go right in with the brush.
DeleteIt's very brave of you to go in without any preliminary drawing, I must try that sometime. These are delightful pictures!! I'm going to try to guess what you did to get over your problems. I think you thickened the neck and body on the left one and cut into the flamingo with a dark wash on the right one. I'm probably completely wrong!!! Not that I'm critisizing, I really like both of these and I love the dreamy backgrounds too!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kev for your comment :) I will let you know how I did it in the next post ;) Take care!
DeleteNo preparational work in pencil gave both your paintings the feel of freedom and waterflow, they are grrreat!
ReplyDelete(How did you manage to make lines so clean and accurate, I wonder)).
Short or long necks - they look so artful.
Glad you like them Irina. I wanted them to be less detailed. So good you think they are. :)
Saludos
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and leaving a comment Mercedes :) My own favourite is the left painting. It has been a good exercise to do two at the same time.
DeleteThese are both really nice and not having a pre drawing gives such a natural look
ReplyDeleteYes it looks a bit softer without the pre drawing.
DeleteThank you so much for stoping by Lorraine :)
Very clever doing two same only different paintings, and without drawing first. They are very successful.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I´m smart aint I! ;) haha
DeleteThank you dear!
The necks show no sign of repair, so I think you did a wonderful job. Two beautiful flamingos ! Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend yourself Jane! Thank you for stoping by :)
DeleteThey both look beautiful! I can't figure out how you repaired the necks, so I am very curious to know!
ReplyDeleteI will tell you in the next post ;) Thank you for visiting and leaving a nice comment Judy! Wishing you a warm and lovely weekend!
DeleteBoth are fun, lively with super textures and colours. They both work really well. It's not cheating... it's art... ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh I know I´m an ARTIST ;) haha

ReplyDeleteThank you Renate dear for your sweet compliment. I will tell you how I did it in next post. It wasn´t that difficult and special at all actually. :)
DeleteLove the flamingoes - lovely paintings. They always make me think of Alice-in-Wonderland!
ReplyDeleteOh did they have Flamingoes in Alice in Wonderland? I just love that cartoon one. Thank you for comming by John and leaving a nice comment. See you around soon!
DeleteYou have such a lovely fresh technique with watercolours, it is so easy to make them muddy, your flamingos are delightful, thank you for visiting my small space and leaving such lovely comments. :)

DeleteCatharina, they are both lovely. I'm waiting for your next post so I can find out your secret:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Candy :)
DeleteYour blog is a wonder. You master watercolor and you know how totransmit the poetry through your paintings.
ReplyDeleteI love what you do, thank you for this beautiful sharing !!!
Oh I wouldn´t say I master watercolour. I don´t think I ever will, but I TRY. But thank you for that lovely thought! It made me happy :)

ReplyDeleteThank you for comming by Marleen :)
ReplyDeleteLovely paintings Catharina and I'll be interested in your next post about how you fixed the necks. The blog looks great. I've been thinking of changing my 'black' look to something much brighter for a while and what you've done here inspires me to get on and do it. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThank you John :) You are wellcome back!
ReplyDeleteThis lighter color is so much better Catharina, it now shows off your beautiful paintings! This font you are using is lovely....do you know what it is? Happy painting!
ReplyDeleteIt is called "Simple". I have changed the colours and so on myself.
DeleteThank you for comming by Laura :)
Hi Catharina, I have been puzzling how you fixed your problem. I think you made the back of the left flamingo a bit higher (the red colour) and the right flamingo I think you fixed it with the dark background. They are both very nice and courageous without drawing. I do like the right one the best, the background makes it more special.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about how I did it Hanneke! I think I like the right one best too actually. But it would be perfect if I could move the left bird to the right background. :)
DeleteThank you Hanneke!
Hi Catharina, I love your flamingos. A hard bird to paint with that long neck and also with no pre-drawing, wow, great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you for comming by and also leaving a nice comment Sherry :) Wellcome back!
ReplyDeleteWitaj Catharina:)
ReplyDeleteMoim zdaniem ten ciemniejszy obraz jest ok:) Ja też zmieniłam ostatnio blog, ale nie jestem jeszcze zadowolona:) Pozdrawiam Ciebie serdecznie:) Jola
Hi Catharina, these are both beautiful paintings! I love flamingos!
