I changed support for my next painting and also did it in a smaller size because of my frustration over painting lately. My medicine. Back to using my favourite watercolourpaper -Arches fine! Although it is thin it is not bending. And it is not making the water float around in bubbles, wich can be rather anoying sometimes. What do you do about this?
A couple of days ago I sent for a medium that will help the water to go in the paper better. It´s called "Oxgalla" in swedish. Haven´t tried it earlier. It will be fun to see how it works.
Anyway; this painting is for
the Challenge 41 at "Paint and draw together"

Bonjour Catharina :)
ReplyDeleteBravo pour cette aquarelle, délicate et harmonieuse.
Thank you Olivier :)
DeleteI love the way you painted the water which creates the perfect effect of light hitting it at different angles. Have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that Blaga :) You to have a nice week!
DeleteHow lovely to see you painting flowers. Take care
ReplyDeleteThank you Polly! You too take care! See you!
DeletePara mí las flores son muy difíciles de pintar, pero tu has conseguido en tu acuarela una bella estampa. Felicidades!
ReplyDeleteWell, we all have different likes regarding what we paint. And lucky is that, otherwise I guess it would be very boring, wouldn´t it. Thank you Jesús for you comment :) Take care!
DeleteOxgall made my paints thicker, I tried it in the beginning of my art "career" and now I have no clue was oxgall my friend or enemy then. I should try it again now, thank you for the idea.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and all the best to you and I am sure you will look super riding a horse when you'd be 80!
I will be 45 next week. I was very nervous at by 40th birthday, now, 5 years later, no big deal and big feelings at all)).
And yes, the time speed is so too much, I have no time at all for painting or writing in the blog, so sorry about that.
All the best to you and your art!
Thank you dear Irina :) Sorry to hear you don´t have time for your blog. I hope that will change so that we all can be able to look at your great art! Take care!
DeleteA delightful painting Catherina!! The flower is beautifully modelled, the water looks great and your colours are so fresh and clean. I think this is your best work for sometime. I turned 51 in March and it's not something I celebrated very loudly. The years certainly do fly and time, dictated by the pace of modern life, is sometimes such a slippery thing. However, never does it fly faster for me than when I'm engrossed in a painting. This is a lovely picture Catherina, time well spent!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I didn´t celebrate much either. No big party or anything. But I was taken out to a restaurant twice for some good food, and that was really nice. Not often I get out to eat. Great to hear you liked the water too, because I allways think that painting water is difficult. The water was painted in many layers before it was done. Using blue and yellow. Take care!
DeleteBeautiful both the way you painted the water and the water lili , lovely colors. Have a nice evening.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane. Nice to hear you like it! :)
ReplyDeleteHola Catharina. Bella acuarela, donde se destaca un río con hermosos destellos, es una obra delicada y armoniosa. Un abrazo!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mercedes for the kind comment :)
Deletethis one is yummy.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteBy the way; I read about your dog. I´m happy he is ok now!
DeleteCiao Catharina, bello il fiore e belli i colori che hai scelto. Un acquerello decisamente riuscito. Un abbraccio.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Tito :) Hug back!
DeleteHey, I missed this little beauty! Did I miss your birthday too? Well, happy birthday to you, though late.
ReplyDeleteSome papers have gelatine or starch in them, that makes the water float on the surface and not sink into the paper as fast, so you have time to move the paint around. Arches has this gelatine, and I don't like it. Wetting the paper and then let it dry, seems to help. My favourite papers are Fabriano Artistico and Canson Fontenay, both 100% cotton. Expensive, but worthwhile. Without gelatine.
Thank you for the information Judy! I like Arches, but it must be the fine one of 185 gr. The rough of 300 gr. is expensive and not much better than the cheaper papers I tried before.
DeleteThank you so much Caro! :)
