I started with both of these flamingo paintings at the same time. That´s why it took one week extra to post I guess. Double work, double time. They are not perfect but it has been a good exercise. I started both of these with the brush straight on to the paper without any drawing before that.

I have been cheating some -if I can call that cheating.
The neck turned too long on the painting to the left, and too short on the painting to the right. But I think I fixed that quite well!
Can you figure out HOW?
Any way. I didn´t think it mattered in the end.

As you can see if you are a follower of my blog, I have changed the look of my blog. I will put a photo as a header, but I have to get a new photo as I have discovered that my photos are too big. So there will still be a few changes. My blog was very dark before, and I feel like lighten things up abit. Maybee it´s the spring I don´t know  ;)
Anyway; I hope that you will like it, and that you will find your way here as easily as before.

Love Peace and Happiness

  1. Catharina - I cannot tell what you did to fix either necks but both are gorgeous paintings. I think it is hard to get animals correct without drawing but you did such a wonderful job. Have a great day.

    1. Thank you Debbie :) I am so fussy with details so I thought it was a good way of forcing me NOT to fuss by go right in with the brush.

  2. It's very brave of you to go in without any preliminary drawing, I must try that sometime. These are delightful pictures!! I'm going to try to guess what you did to get over your problems. I think you thickened the neck and body on the left one and cut into the flamingo with a dark wash on the right one. I'm probably completely wrong!!! Not that I'm critisizing, I really like both of these and I love the dreamy backgrounds too!!!

  3. No preparational work in pencil gave both your paintings the feel of freedom and waterflow, they are grrreat!
(How did you manage to make lines so clean and accurate, I wonder)).
Short or long necks - they look so artful.

    1. Glad you like them Irina. I wanted them to be less detailed. So good you think they are. :)

Saludos

  22. Lovely paintings Catharina and I'll be interested in your next post about how you fixed the necks. The blog looks great. I've been thinking of changing my 'black' look to something much brighter for a while and what you've done here inspires me to get on and do it. Great work.

  25. Hi Catharina, I have been puzzling how you fixed your problem. I think you made the back of the left flamingo a bit higher (the red colour) and the right flamingo I think you fixed it with the dark background. They are both very nice and courageous without drawing. I do like the right one the best, the background makes it more special.

    1. You are right about how I did it Hanneke! I think I like the right one best too actually. But it would be perfect if I could move the left bird to the right background. :)
      Thank you Hanneke!
