I found these words on another blog, anyone recognize themselves?
How to feel misserable as an Artist
(Or; what NOT to do, underline any that currently apply).
Constantly compare yourself to other Artists.
Talk to your family about what you do and expect them to cheer you on.
Base the success of your entire career on one single project.
Stick with what you know.
Undervalue your expertice.
Let money dictate what you do.
Bow to societal pressures.
Only do work that your family would love.
Do whatever the client / customer / gallery owner / patron / investor asks.
Set unachievable / overwhelming goals. To be accomplished by tomorrow.

Happy birthday... and love the avocados... we eat them by the crate full... my parents used to own an avocado farm and even though they don't have it any more we still consume scary amounts of them... your painting of them is great!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, that´s kind of you Tracey! Avocados are very healthy; so you keep on eating them. Take care!
DeleteHappy birthday Catharina!
ReplyDeleteThank you, that´s very kind of you Judy! All my three kids came to visite, and had some salmon for dinner together with me and some cake afterwards. They sang "Happy birthday to you" and put a candle in my cake so that I could make a wish. I had our Swedish flag on the table and some candels. They made it so very nice! I am so pleased with my birthday! LOVE my kids! <3
DeleteIs it your birthday??? If it is Happy Birthday. Anyway I do nearly all of those don'ts. Maybe as budding artists we just want our work to be liked so it is natural to bend to please. In which case are we really creating what we have within us and showing what our true self wants to create or are we just pleasing everyone else? A question I ask myself constantly. Really love those avocados. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday today, yes. Thank you very much Laura! I am very pleased with my day today. My kids payed me a wonderful visite. We had dinner and ofcourse some birthdaycake together. And right now I am sitting very comfortable in my favourite spot in the sofa!
DeleteHappy birthday Catharina!! Enjoy this day!! A hug!

ReplyDeleteI´m so glad to hear you say that! THANK YOU!!!
DeleteHappy birthday Catharina!!!!
ReplyDeleteAll the don't -except from painting what other would like to see- must referring to me :) Especially the first one... I always like other artists' work, but not mine.
Your avocados are fresh and beautiful!!
Warm regards.
Makes me so happy to hear that! Thank you SO much Konstantina. Take care.
ReplyDelete~Happy Birthday Catherine~ ... I hope you are having a wonderful day! :)
ReplyDeleteI really have! Thank you so much Ingrid for your kind birthdaywish. Take care!
DeleteHello Catharina:) I hope you have had a happy birthday. Your painting is amazing. I thought it was a photo!!
ReplyDeleteAbout the dont's: Everyday I compare myself with other artists and thinking: ooh I never get to that level and want to quit! Everyday I show my work I'm working on to my husband and 9 out of 10 he doesn't like it and is not excited as I am! This makes me doubt to continue. The only easy thing for me is that I never met a client or galerie owner so I don't have to do what they want :)
Renate...don´t listen to these guys that don´t cheer you on! When you love creating you must keep on doing it. We ALL have different styles..and really listen to what I have to say now; ALL have different taste also. So; what does all this end up to? Remember this ALLWAYS. You do a great job! And when you keep on practising you learn new techniques all the time and you get better using them each time you practise them. I believe that the main keey is not to take too long pauses between the paintingperiodes, because then you tend to fall back almost to square one again. Atleast it has been that with me.
ReplyDeleteRemember: You are doing GREAT!!!
Take care!
Tack Katarina för dina uppmuntrande ord. Jag kommer att tänka. XXX
ReplyDeleteHerzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag liebe Catharina! Happy Birthday Dear Catharina! - Oh yes, I recognized myself - ... this is a game what generates only loosers and no winners. I did it often (and I'm sometimes still doing it but as soon as I recognize it, I try to stop it). - I recently found a text on our noticeboard in the company where I'm working and it says:
ReplyDelete"All of us are born as an original but most of us die as a copy."
I love this aphorism!
And I love your beautiful pictures!
Dankeschön Stefanie! A good aphorism and so true. Thank you for your comment! Take care.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Catharina! Sorry I am late. I am so glad you had great day with your family!
ReplyDeleteVery wise "don't"s. Friendship and exchange of ideas and inspirations are great help against misery!
Better late than never :) Thank you dear Irina! You are so true about needing friends to get inspired creativly! Friends lift you back on the right track.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
