Bridge at Wycoller

This one is painted from a photo by John Robinsson at Paint My Photo.
A beautyful old bridge! (hm...atleast the photo).
I don´t think my photo came out too well. The sun had gone down
abit too much I think. I will try to take another photo tomorrow, and
if that one will be better; I will change it.
This time I tryed hard NOT to get in to details too much.
I think that is my main problem and something that I have to work
hard with. If I can overcome my obsession with getting stucked
with details; maybe, but only maybe, my paintings will be better looking.
Keep it on......

  1. I used to quite live close to this place and there was another similar packhorese bridge in nearby Bronte country but I never got to see it. This a lovely painting of an old bridge and you have captured it really well. You have a lovely fresh style all of your own, Catharina - so stop worrying about too much/too little detail and keep going!

    1. The world is small. Funny you use to live nearby the very same bridge I picked out to paint! By the way: have you seen the link to from where I took the referencephoto for my painting? I am very happy to have found all these wonderful free photos! Talking about my painting and details: this time I made some details of the bricks with a riggerbrush, and after that I painted a thin layer of blue on top as shadow. That made the "riggerlines" soften alot.
Thank you for your comment Michael :) and wellcome back! (By the way: have a look at the artist Nora MacPhail´s paintings. You can get there by using a link in my blogroll.)

  2. I like it, Catharina! Sometimes it helps to blur a photo using a photoshop program, or just squint your eyes to loose the details. I have seen the original photograph and you did a wonderful job, leaving out details! Happy painting!

  4. I'm also a sucker for putting in too much detail. I think this painting is beautifully done and it has a lovely fresh and airy feel to it. Very nice work.

  5. I like how you describe the process and result, recognize myself here: I see the mistakes, see the opportunities and love my imperfect paintings very much)). Well done.

    1. Yes I believe it´s like that. First when I started this blog, I thought I should only put it the paintings I like the most. But then I thought again, that you learn so much from your mistaces, so why not showing them too. And maybe letting others learn from them also. And showing others my progress in my learningprocess, my ups and downs.
